Types of Body Pain and How to Deal with Them

Aching muscles and sore joints can be signs of sa major illness.


It goes without saying that pain is an unpleasant experience for most of us. Still, it is still one of the many ways our bodies communicate with you, that something is not right and needs your attention.

Pain can have many causes and individuals respond to it in many different ways. The pain that you can ignore for the meantime may be unbearable or incapacitating to another.

Types of body pain

Even if the experience of pain is different from one person to the other, it can be categorized into two different types:

  1. Acute body pain

    This type of body pain occurs suddenly and diminishes on its own or with the help of medical treatment such as Medicol. Acute body pain can be the result of an illness, injury or surgery. It can range from mild to severe, and can last anywhere around weeks or months.  


  2. Chronic body pain

    This second type is pain that persists over a longer period and may have no apparent cause, even after healing from an injury or illness. Chronic pain can last for weeks or even years. Those who suffer from chronic pain (usually those with osteorthratis or other similar conditions) may find this type of pain debilitating.  

Treating body pain

If you’re experiencing body pain, here are some tips on pain relief:  

  • Cold/hot treatment – Start by applying cold compress or ice to the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes for serveal times a day until pain subsides. Then, apply hot compress to loosen tightness in the muscles.
  • Get rested, but don’t forget to stretch or move around ocassionally. Light activity can ease body pain.
