OVERDOSE AND TREATMENT
Salbutamol
Salbutamol is generally well tolerated and serious toxic effects are few. Overdosage with salbutamol at doses between 5 and 240 mg produced no fatalities. The most common symptoms include tremor, flushing, agitation, hypertension, and palpitation due to sinus tachycardia. No specific treatment is necessary. Administration of a cardioselective beta-sympathetic antagonist may be appropriate but is best avoided if the patient is asthmatic. Hypokalemia may occur following overdosage with salbutamol; thus, serum potassium levels should be monitored.
Carbocisteine
Gastrointestinal disturbance is the only likely symptom of carbocisteine overdose.
