Unilab renews CSR ties with Inquirer
9/24/2008

Unilab, through its Consumer Health, recently renewed its partnership with Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) to reach newsboys nationwide with its medical mission outreach. Going strong on its second year run, the project aims to promote health consciousness by extending health services and free medicines to the newsboys in Metro Manila and key cities of the country. The newsboys are considered one of the more vulnerable workmen of Philippine society. Consistently exposed to elements and hazards of the road, newsboys have a high incidence of respiratory diseases, which affect their health and that of their immediate family. “As acknowledged partners in our business, Inquirer feels that we have a responsibility to them,” PDI field manager for nationwide sales Edwin Sacramed explained. “This is why we, in partnership with other companies, have implemented various programs for their benefit, ranging from scholarships, insurance coverage, and health awareness. We are fortunate to partner with Unilab on the latter.” To date, the initiative has conducted medical missions in several areas in Metro Manila, benefiting close to 500 newsboys. Medical missions were also conducted in several key areas like Cebu, Pampanga, Iloilo and Davao, reaching more than 1,000 newsboys. The partnership also extended valuable support to newsboys housed in the various evacuation centers in Panay following the Typhooon Frank. Aside from the medical mission in Jaro, relief goods and vitamins were also distributed in Roxas City and Kalibo. Other runs are scheduled in Monumento and North Avenue this September, Marikina and Cainta in October, and Coastal Road and Cubao in November. Coordinator for Unilab is Consumer Health Professional Marketing Specialist Gamaliel Dizon from the Consumer Health Division.
