The Board of Investments has granted incentives to United Laboratories’ subsidiary, Amherst, Php1.52 billion projects to manufacture essential drugs.
BOI data show that all-Filipino-owned Amherst Laboratories, Inc., which has a facility at the Unilab Pharma Campus in Binan, Laguna, would be making essential drugs in liquid form at a rate of 249 million mm a year.
Amherst is currently registered with the BOI as a new producer of pharmaceutical products in powder, tablet, or capsule form.
The firm’s new project involves the construction and operation of a new manufacturing plant beside its existing plant.
The proposed products include somatics and anti-pain preparations, anti-infective, pulmonary diseases – asthma, allergies, cough and cold, multivitamin and mineral products and drugs for gastrointestinal ailments.
“Amherst’s project is in response to the over-all goal of taking the country to a higher level of competitiveness and make us a strong player in the global environment,” the agency said.
The BOI added that the project was expected to create 195 new jobs as well as contribute to local government revenues in terms of taxes, licenses and fees. |
