Unilab holds liquid-pouring event for Liquids Plant
5/30/2008

United Laboratories, Inc., the country’s largest and leading pharmaceutical and healthcare company, recently held a Concrete-Pouring Ceremony for its P1.4-billion Liquids Plant investment in Laguna. Led by Unilab Chairman Jocelyn Campos Hess, the Concrete-Pouring Ceremony marked a significant development in the construction of the Liquids Plant, which is an expansion of Unilab’s manufacturing subsidiary, Amherst Laboratories, Inc. “The envisioned completion of Amherst Laboratories Liquids Plant is more than just a business investment. For us at Unilab, the Liquids Plant, through the trusted quality medicines it will produce, is our contribution to the much bigger investment that is the Filipinos’ health,” says Unilab Chairman Jocelyn Campos Hess. Complementing the existing state-of-the-art Amherst Laboratories, the Liquids Plant is the most modern manufacturing plant for liquid pharmaceutical products in the country, highlighted by its strict compliance with both local and international standards of good manufacturing practice (GMP). Amherst Liquids Plant also meets the tight regulatory requirements brought about by the ongoing regulatory harmonization in Southeast Asia. “Amherst Liquids Plant has world-class manufacturing equipment and facility available, such as reactor-type vessels that allow processing of sensitive products under vacuum or inert gas atmosphere; a computerized process control and monitoring system; and an automatic clean-in-place system for production equipment and pipelines—all designed to ensure not just the highest level of product quality, but also product affordability resulting from optimum operations and energy efficiency,” explains Unilab President and CEO Carlos Ejercito. “The Liquids Plant is also a milestone venture as it reinforces Unilab’s presence in Asia as the only Filipino multinational pharmaceutical company of consequence,” shares Unilab Vice Chairman Clinton Campos Hess. “With the immense production capacity of the Liquids Plant, we shall be able to export more products and meet the demands of our international markets.” Targeting completion of construction by mid-2009, the Liquids Plant is set to start its commercial operations by 1st quarter of 2010.
